Bob Dickson Retires Although the Charity Continues

Our founder Professor Bob Dickson retired at the end of November 2007 having spent almost 27 years as the first Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the University of Leeds and Consultant Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon.

His University secretary Helen Radcliffe retired at the same time but both are carrying on running the Yorkshire Children’s Spine Foundation. This charity was set up more than 20 years ago and has sponsored some of the most important work on the causes and treatment of spinal deformities in children with hundreds of publications in peer-reviewed journals and twice as many presentations or lectures around the world. Leeds is firmly on the map as the centre for research into idiopathic scoliosis (the commonest spinal deformity in children and adolescents) which occurs in more than 2% of our otherwise normal teenage girls.

This year we want a big effort from our all friends and fundraisers to “go for it” as regards raising monies for our charity to recognise all the hard work that Professor Dickson and his team have done over nearly three decades in Leeds.

To this end, Helen and Professor Dickson work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at their original office in the Clarendon Wing at the Leeds General Infirmary – Tel No – 0113 392 2881, and would be very pleased to hear from you if you want any help with fundraising activities or do pop in and see us.
